Food Photography and Food Styling

Almost everyone has heard the rumors about food photography: beer foam is supposedly replaced with shaving cream, and the dishes supposedly cannot be eaten afterwards anyway. Sometimes that is true, but often a few simple styling tricks are all it takes.

For the Konrads restaurant at the Hilton Cologne, I was commissioned to photograph some of the most beautiful dishes on the menu at the time. Together with the head chef, I created appetizing images on site—without elaborate tricks.

Fresh Ingredients, Thoughtful Preparation

For the photo, the pasta was swirled in boiling water for just one minute. It was not cooked through enough to eat; the aim was to capture its shape and appearance. We did not cook the gnocchi at all. The rest could certainly be eaten.

The result: food photography with fresh, regional ingredients and no fuss. It tastes good and looks good.
